Phono Solar liefert Module für 800-Home Projekt in York

2012-07-19

Phono Solar, a global renewable energy solutions manufacturer, today announced its participation in a project currently underway in York to fit up to 800 council homes with solar modules.

The UK branch of Phono Solar, its own HQ based just a few miles from the homes, has supplied modules for this City of York Council, Empower Community and Nationwide Solar project. The residential installations are currently underway for completion by the end of July. Once the modules have been installed, tenants in the council housing will benefit from free electricity generated by the installations, reducing electricity costs dramatically, with a profit share for, and ultimate ownership of the assets by, the York community. These City of York Council homes join the other 15,000 UK installations which use Phono Solar modules.

Mariana Hall, Vice-President of Phono Solar Europe, said: “Not only does this scheme reduce these council homes’ collective carbon footprint and reduce tenants’ electricity bills, but it also demonstrates the viability of the PV solution to other councils. We hope that City of York Council’s decision to implement the PV solution sets a precedent; which will be followed by councils across the UK. At Phono Solar, we are delighted to be involved in the project.”

Councillor Tracey Simpson-Laing, City of York Council’s Cabinet member for Health, Housing and Adult Social Services said: “We believe it’s essential that as a responsible landlord we take every opportunity to enable our tenants to reduce their carbon footprint and their energy bills. This low-carbon source of sustainable energy will serve to keep tenants comfortable, healthier and better off.”

The installations utilise the Phono Solar DIAMOND 200W mono crystalline modules. The high-efficiency modules ensure excellent output in weak-light conditions, and higher specific yields due to positive power sorting.
